How to store cat grass in a pet shop - 5 steps
Cat grass is a living plant (young winter wheat) - it reacts to temperature, light and humidity. Our B2B customers receive ready, fully grown pots, so what matters most is the right display and rotation, not growing. Here are the proven rules:
- Keep your stock in a fridge (+3 to +5°C). At low temperatures winter wheat goes dormant - it does not grow and needs neither watering nor light. Once taken out, it looks as if freshly delivered by the manufacturer.
- Display one pot on the counter by the till. Cat grass is a fast-moving product that customers buy on impulse. Take the pot out of its box and stand it on top of the box - shoppers see the juicy green, and the packaging tells them what it is.
- Without a fridge - 14-21 days on the shelf. Keep it away from radiators, direct sun and halogen lamps. The best place: lower shelves with diffused light. Water moderately, only when the leaves lose their firmness.
- Use FIFO rotation (First In, First Out). Older stock at the front, fresher at the back. Do not mix deliveries on one shelf - shoppers always pick the fresher pot and the older one stays.
- Order the next carton when 2 pots are left. Courier delivery takes 1-2 days. A carton holds 6 pots. Shops with a fridge can order 12-18 pots at once - in the cold the grass keeps without any care.
